A number of teenagers in the Sutherland Shire are a whole lot fitter now than they used to be thanks to an innovative program staged by the PCYC last term.

The PCYC Sutherland Work, Sweat, Achieve program received funding last year from the IMB Bank Shire Community Foundation, with 12 young people aged under 16 participating in the eight-week course.

PCYC policy states that under 16s can use cardio equipment in the gym, but not weights. The funds were used to purchase a treadmill and cross trainer so young people could take part in activities aimed at building resilience, improving mental and physical health.

Sutherland Club Manager Amanda Bryne said all the participants worked hard to improve their physical fitness and were surprised and delighted with their results.
