Birdblack Design’s Sarah Nolan reveals the secrets to maximising space in your house. There are some key things you can do regardless of the size of your house.

  Think hard about storage solutions
Please insert you content here When planning storage solutions think about using the full height of the room. Not only does this provide much more storage space, it also creates a more refined and sophisticated look. Think about having specific storage areas for things such as shoes, toys and utensils.
  Choose versatile items
When adding something permanent to a space such as cabinets, windows, and stairs, try to think about how versatile each can be. Planning for some items to be multi-purpose will result in much less space being wasted overall.
  Bathroom space savers
Consider things such as the fittings and fixtures including in-wall cisterns and wall hung joinery which makes a difference to how space feels, while also providing an easier space to clean.

Also, consider your finishes within this space, dark floor tiles paired with lighter wall tiles can work really well to push the walls out and make the room appear larger.

  Create an open plan layout
Think about how you can open up space. The removal of internal doors within public spaces can improve the atmosphere immensely, creating a much warmer and more inviting space. Replacing windows with larger ones can affect the amount of light, ventilation and view, all of which are key aspects that should be considered when trying to maximise the space within a room. There are some simple changes that can be made that will transform your house into a fresh, vibrant welcoming home that maximises the space available.
